Heyyyyyyyyy, Potter-ites.

Just a heads-up that, as part of an upcoming bit of plot, I'd like to Millicanon that there's a Wizarding college at Oxford. Anyone have objections to this?

Now, for the question: WHAT SHOULD WE CALL THIS COLLEGE?

This calls for imagination. :D!

Molly has told numerous people in the past that there are no wizarding Universities, and that any education beyond Hogwarts came in the form of on the job training, or apprenticeships.

That being said, my Molly is from an alternate version of the wizarding world, so... I guess that doesn't matter.

As for names? No idea.

Well, we haven't fucked canon up the arse lately, why the hell not?

As for names....if you don't mind esoteric and a little creepy? There's a spirit of knowledge called Etsai - which means fiend - in Basque mythology. At the end of his lectures, he requires one of his students to remain at his service forever.

Well, the only thing we know with canon is that some positions like Aurors require extra training.

So I could see that as being like going to university for Wizarding society.

And hmmm... a good name. Unseen...hahah, no.

More seriously, hmmm Eruditus? Variation of Erudition or knowledge.

Though I do like Val's idea for Etsai, and the story behind it sounds fascinating.

Most of the colleges in Oxford are people names or place/descriptive ones, and all very British names. Which is not to say that ours had to be likewise, but something like Longbeard College or Merlin's Hall might work.

I would also suggest that it could be a very selective, highly specialized kind of school. That way we can wiggle around canon issues. Not that we are totally invested in canon in our little AU. :-P

If it's called Merlin's Hall, you can bet money that Merriman gave Dumbledore a hard time about it on more than one occasion. ^^;;

How about St. Walpurga's College? That might be an interesting in-joke in the Wizarding community -- naming the College after the saint that Walpurgisnacht is named after?

Ooh, I like St. Walpurga's College. That would give a little ambiguity to it, too.

Aha, Walpurga is Sirius' mother's name, according to the Black Family Tree. Or, well, Walburga, but close enough. Poor Sirius, I can just see him twitching every time the school's name was mentioned....
